Manuel Delgado (Spain) and Ralf Siedhoff (Germany) met in Tunis in 1997 where they worked on a project with musicians from different cultural backgrounds for the Carthage festival. Both soon found themselves in a cross-cultural co-operation, which inspired them to start working as a guitar duo and bringing together their different musical roots.
Manuel Delgado - flamenco guitar Manuel was born and grew up in Barcelona (Spain). He gained first recognition when participating in the First Festival of Flamenco Guitar in 1988 (Paris). As soloist and composer he is experienced in the art of accompanying flamenco singers and dancers and shared his experience with other artists representing Flamenco as well as Jazz and Oriental styles. Regarding Jazz musicians, he performed with Ernesto Martinez, Chris Jarrett, Miguel Sanchez, Zoltán Lantos and Joell Grare and last but not least with the oriental musicians Mohamed Zinelabidine, Kudsi Erguner, Mahmud Tabrizi-Zadeh, Jorgos Psirakis and Sharmilla Roy. He composed for contemporary dance group as well as for theatre productions and annually teaches a "Masterclass" at the cultural centre Rütliblick in Switzerland. Ralf Siedhoff - classical and 12-string guitars Ralf was born in Weimar, Schiller´s and Goethe´s hometown. He studied at the Franz-Liszt-Conservatory of Weimar. After 1988 he specialized in acoustic guitar and started performing concerts with the well-known Edwin Sadowski. During that time he gained reputation as one of the greatest talents of the former GDR Jazz scene. In 1994 he organised the festival "One sky, one rhythm" in Weimar. Other projects had been the indian music trio Ganpati. Ralf´s flexibility in connecting different styles and rhythms are result of his studies with Rama Mani in classical South Indian music in Bangalore and of his work with oriental musicians like Mohamed Zinelabidine, and Michalis Klapakis or his work with Jorgos Psirakis and Zoltán Lantos in the Euoriental - Project "AISMA". From 1996 to 1997 he worked as the musical director of the Thalia Theater in Halle, mainly composing and producing theatre-music. He played at various Jazz and Worldmusic festivals like Budapest, Carthago Tunis, Worms, Bayreuth, Jena, and Leipzig. Ernesto Martinez Massanet - ethno percussionist Ernesto Martinez is a musician who has dedicated his life to the world of ethno percussion both as a teacher as well as through his recordings and live performances. His knowledge of a wide range of the world's musical styles has led to many encounters within the realm of jazz, fusion and world music. As a musician, this multi percussionist has added a uniqueness to many a studio session through his mastery of timbres and the wide range of sounds that he creates from his impressive array of instruments. He has also extended his creative touch through collaborations in sound and image with theater and dance companies. Currently, he holds positions in two leading conservatories of modern music in Barcelona where he teaches courses in ethnic percussion. |
