The central figure of the Zigan Swing Trio is the guitarist Armin Heitz. He always goes for an upright combination of gypsy swing in the spirit of the great Django Reinhardt and American mainstream jazz with a modern twist. His inspiration ranges from the elegant lines of a Pat Martino, the thick block harmonies of a Wes Montgomery and the filigree chords of a Jim Hall, all the way to the virtuosically swinging octaves of a George Benson.
But Armin Heitz is more than just a guardian of this heritage. He is working hard at finding his own place in the firmament of modern jazz guitar. With his energy-charged and expressive manner of playing, he has long become one of the most important European guitarists. His partners, Janosch Dörr (rhythm guitar) and Zeca De Oliveira (7-string bass) give optimal support to his high-flying solos. Dörr supplies the rhythmic foundation with his steel strings, De Oliveira moves the music along with his walking lines and additionally proves that he is a tasteful and highly virtuosic soloist as well. |
