It was a great event and we would like to thank everyone who took part. Unfortunately we didn't quite manage to reach our goal. 1062 guitarists played "House Of The Rising Sun" together, but we needed 1323 in order to get into the Guiness Book of Records. All the same it was tremendous fun. Many thanks to all who participated!
Time: Sunday, October 2, 2005, admission as of 9:30 a.m., start at 12 noon
Place: Open Strings-Festival in the Europasaal of the Stadthalle Osnabrück
On Sunday, we will make a second attempt at breaking the world record for the “world’s largest guitar ensemble.” We need 1323 participants to break the current record, which is held in Canada, and earn an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. We have chosen an easy arrangement of the traditional song “House Of The Rising Sun.” You will find sheet music, tablatures and sound samples below  .
Anyone who owns or can borrow a guitar should participate. To break the current record, we need 1323 participants!! Admission to this event is free of charge, naturally. We will arrange for a “guitar case cloakroom” in the 'Niedersachsensaal.”
The record within the record
The oldest and youngest participants, the one who has traveled farthest, as well as the largest group to arrive, will each receive a prize in the form of a certificate and a gift coupon worth 100 Euros for CDs and sheet music.
Participation in the World record attempt is free of charge!
Please register without obligation so that we can make the necessary preparations. To do this, you may use the following registration form . The attempt to break the world record at the Open Strings 2004 failed by a close margin, unfortunately: 685 participants = European record. This year, we want to know if it’s possible this year – and we hope you will do your part!
The following points must be taken into consideration during the process for the world record to meet the Guinness requirements. Each person wanting to participate must:
1) Enter his/her name on a list on the ground floor (cloakroom). Afterwards, each entrant will receive a ticket.
2) This ticket allows access to the Europasaal on the upper story – that is where the attempt for the world record will take place.
3) When the attempt has been completed, the ticket must be given to an attendant at the door on leaving the hall. If this is not done, the person will not be counted!!!
